Abstract

We recognize ourselves in daring or shyness, in sadness or joy, in easy cholera or infinite patience, in strength or weakness as features that define what we are, our way of being. It is a sort of emotional mosaic created throughout our experiences over our genetic matrix. That is our sentimental repertoire. Knowing ourselves serves as a guide in life and, for the doctor, that knowledge is essential when taking care of others. Being able to realize what we feel and to detect, understand and accept the patients’ emotions are key tools to take care of our patients, to go through their pain, to achieve a sense of inner peace, a sense of professional well-made task.
