Sustainable forest management and bioeconomy policies against forest fires in the European Union and Spain

Forest fires represent a challenge of great magnitude for the Public Administration. The degradation of the natural environment, the abandonment of rural areas and the increase in temperatures, added to the complicated in- ter-administrative coordination system and the high cost of the means to deal with this type of disaster, make up a complex context of action for the public sector. In the European Union and, in particular, in Spain, a broad regulatory framework has been designed that is structured through a decentralized action system, through which bioeconomy and forest waste assessment policies have begun to be drawn up that are formed as a prevention instrument of great value against forest fires.
